PCOS Case study:

"I was diagnosed with PCOS and Insulin Resistance in March 2005. I began taking medications for this in October 2005. 8 months later and I still didn't feel like my body was performing any better and I was also experiencing depression. After seeing Julie's advice on the Australian PCOS website, I made an appointment to see her. It sounds unbelievable but literally less than a week after seeing her and starting supplements, as well as following her dietary advice, the black cloud that had sat around my head for so long just disappeared. I finally started feeling like the 'real' me for the first time in years.

Since then things have only improved: recent tests show no cysts on my ovaries (which I didn't even think was possible), my blood pressure is lower, I've lost weight, and my energy levels are much higher. That black cloud that was my constant companion for at least 2 years hasn't come back! I can't thank Julie enough for all her help. She has literally turned my life around! - from G.E. NSW December 2006.

What is PCOS?

Polycystic ovary syndrome is a condition that involves hormonal imbalances and usually, problems with regulating blood sugar levels and insulin. This results in symptoms that can vary greatly among women and despite the name of the condition, not all women with PCOS have cysts on their ovaries.

Some symptoms that may occur are; weight gain or trouble losing weight, acne, excess hair (in a masculine distribution), scalp hair loss, irregular or absent cycles and trouble conceiving, mood swings, sugar cravings, dizziness, recurrent miscarriages.

It is important to treat this condition and not just 'put up with it' because apart from the distressing symptoms, there is a higher risk of certain complications such as high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, and endometrial cancer (cancer of the uterine lining).

If you think you have PCOS then it is important to see your doctor for a diagnosis and also to rule out other causes for your symptoms.
